Richard Bullock – General Manager

Richard Bullock has been the General Manager of Kelowna Land & Orchard (KLO) since 1985. Founded in 1904, the Bullock family has owned and operated the 140-acre farm and commercial apple orchard since 1946.

Born and raised in Kelowna, he started working in the family business at a young age, and over the years, learned virtually every aspect of operating KLO.

Eager to make a name for himself off the farm, and to garner more experience in the agricultural and apple-growing industry, Bullock has held a variety of positions in the Kelowna community, including President of both Sun-Rype Ltd. and BC Tree Fruits.

The importance of the farming industry became essential to Bullock early in his career and, as a member of the BC Fruit Growers Association from 1978 to 1985, he lobbied for growers’ rights and helped set industry standards for wages and working conditions for farmers across the province. He is currently a member of the Canadian Farm Industry Review Board and acts as a mediator between farmers and the government on issues concerning farming initiatives. He is past-president of the Canadian Horticultural Council and is currently a member of the BC Marketing Board.

Bullock understands the value of agritourism and believes strongly in the agritourism experience as a viable and profitable component of rural life in BC. KLO, under his guidance, has become a thriving tourist destination in Kelowna, offering a full-service restaurant, orchard tours and a petting zoo, thereby giving people the world over a chance to experience a working farm first-hand.

He was instrumental in the formation of the BC Agritourism Alliance (BCATA) and currently serves as its Chair. The vision of the BCATA is to promote and foster a self-sustaining, vital agritourism industry built on the bounty, values and characters of rural life.

In 2003, Bullock was awarded Tourism Kelowna’s Individual of the Year Award, in recognition of his many contributions to the development and continued growth of the agritourism industry.

Bullock lives in Kelowna with his wife Jacqui. They have two children, Nicole and John, who also work at KLO.
